Cooling and positioning
Rotating gear units function as auxiliary units of e.g. gas turbines or steam turbines. During the start-up phase and the cooling phase, the turbine shafts are set in motion or kept in motion with the help of the rotating equipment from AKB Antriebstechnik. In the cooling phase, the rotating equipment ensures dimensional stability of the hot rotor of a steam turbine or gas turbine by controlled rotation. In addition, rotating equipment ensures the necessary rotational speeds. For the breakaway, start-up and positioning of the shaft trains.
Secure energy supply with the use of renewable energies
The increasing use of renewable energies is also changing the operating conditions in the field of fossil power generation. This leads to new areas of application and requirements. In the context of the energy turnaround and the shift towards the use of power generators that make use of renewable energies (e.g. wind energy, photovoltaics), power plants that today serve the purpose of the main energy supply will be needed as back-up and to supply energies in peak load cases and as emergency reserves (e.g. in the event of a dark lull) to ensure a constant energy supply. However, since the power-generating turbines cannot be ramped up from standstill within a few seconds, the power plants and their steam and gas turbines must be kept in “standby mode.” This “standby mode” is becoming increasingly important and will also be ensured in the future by the rotating equipment from AKB Antriebstechnik.
